As a octogenarian, former pathologist, and grandmother, my journey has been enriched by my dual passions for medicine and art. My professional career, dedicated to pathology, spanned decades, culminating in my retirement in January 2000. However, it was in 1987, at the age of 49, that I discovered another profound passion—watercolor painting. My artistic journey began at the Summit Adult Education program, where I was introduced to the fundamentals of watercolor by Sarita Anne Cook. Following two enriching semesters under her guidance, she encouraged me to pursue a more structured art education. This advice led me to attend du’Cret School of Art in Plainfield, NJ, a decision that deeply ingrained my love for painting, particularly watercolors.

My commitment to art often saw me starting my days at dawn, carving out time for painting before my duties at the hospital. My dedication sometimes extended to the point of tardiness for work, as I found myself utterly absorbed in my craft. Over the years, I have had the privilege of learning from several renowned artists, including Barbara Nechis, and have developed a distinctive style. I revel in the use of vibrant colors and enjoy the process of bringing shapes to life on wet or damp paper through negative painting. My approach ranges from semi-abstract to completely abstract, especially in my floral works, while I adopt a more subdued palette for landscapes and still lifes.

My artwork has not only been a source of personal fulfillment but has also been recognized and displayed in various prestigious locations, such as St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY, and the radiology department of Atlantic City Medical Center. Additionally, I actively contribute to charitable causes through my art, supporting the Summit Rotary Club and the St. Francis Hospital Foundation. My involvement with the New Jersey art community is reflected in my membership with the NJCVA, GSWCS, and the Essex Watercolor Club, where I have exhibited my work and received accolades for my contributions to the art world.

For the past five years, I have served as the art director for WomanArt, a show that celebrates the talents of female artists from the NY-NJ-PA area, hosted by the Summit College Club at the New Providence library. This role has allowed me to foster a supportive environment for artists to showcase their work without constraints.

Recently, I’ve begun sharing my passion for watercolors through lessons offered from my home in Summit, NJ, encouraged by the support of friends and admirers of my work. Painting remains a vital expression of my joy and a way to encapsulate the beauty I see in the world around me.
